The AVAPE Living Together Centers located in the Greater ABC region and in Taubaté (SP) attend to young people with intellectual and/or associated multiple disabilities from the age of 12 onwards, both daytime and semi-boarding. The activities are carried out through different workshops such as handcrafts, stationery office, carpentry, breeding small animals and organic agriculture. The aim is to afford proper development of mental capacities and basic habits regarding personal care, so as to encourage the personal and social independence of persons with disabilities. The aim is also to afford better emotional control and encourage development of communication skills. By diversifying the activities, the Centers also raise awareness of the reality surrounding the student, placing him/her in time and space. With the focus on developing the sense of living together within relationships of friendship and group living, with the aim of acquiring social norms and recognizing authority, different activities are held involving leisure, sports, music and dancing. Operational Group: affords development of skills and learning, reducing aggressiveness and anguish in favor of group coexistence, while arousing in the individual interest and contact with aspects of their role in society.
Affective Relations Project (sexuality): provides guidance and clarifies doubts on sexuality. The project also functions in preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. It develops self-esteem and works on affection.
The Animal-Assisted Therapy Program: develops greater confidence, affection and relations for overcoming limits and for affording emotional stability. The program also encourages physical activities for developing pedagogical aspects.
Social Skills Group: affords greater team cooperation; enhances technical knowledge for applying social skills techniques to those being attended to.
AVAPE Assisted Home: inaugurated on December 18, 2008, the monitored home has a capacity for six people with intellectual disabilities over the age of 18 and semi-independent in terms of looking after themselves. The residents participate in activities at the Living Together Centers during the Day, returning to the home at night.
The residence functions as a home where the residents can feel at ease to express their desires and needs, entertain their hobbies and receive relatives and friends. They receive guidance regarding tiny details with their belongings and with the house. |
